Paul Edward Gaulke

September 16, 1962 — November 27, 2023

Portland, Oregon

Paul Gaulke was born on September 16, 1962, in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. He died peacefully at home in Portland, Oregon, on November 27, 2023. Paul was a deeply beloved and loving husband of his wife, Emily. He also loved his dogs, currently PeeDee and Mickey, as well as those who came before, including Charlie and Norm. The cause of death was brain cancer, called glioblastoma (GBM), which first occurred in 2012, and then recurred in 2022.

Paul was preceded in death by his dear mother Barbara, father Earl and brother Peter. He is survived by his beloved sister Kathy (Karen) and brothers Joe (Barb), John and Pat.

Paul had a sarcastic wit, a big laugh, lots of opinions and a strong work ethic. He loved sports, especially skiing and playing hockey as a kid and adult. Even more, he relished football season and was a faithful fan of the Minnesota Vikings.

A foodie, wine lover and avid adventurer, Paul lived in many cities throughout the United States, and traveled the world with Emily, enjoying all that life had to offer. He was also a huge fan of current events, entertainment and music. He went to many concerts and shows that brought him much happiness. His favorite band was, of course, The Beatles.

He loved his family and friends, whether from the shenanigans of his misspent youth, his long career in the wacky broadcast news industry or more recently developed friendships that celebrated with him during the good times and buoyed him during the bad times.

Paul was grateful to have had so many exceptional experiences in his life. He was an amazingly good sport, enduring a long struggle with brain cancer with the humor and practicality that were hallmarks of his personality. Paul will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

In lieu of flowers, feel free to make a donation in Paul’s name to the American Brain Tumor Association.
