Alfonzia Holland, Jr, the second of four children, was born August 19, 1927, in Columbus, Georgia to the late Alfonzia Holland, Sr. and Carrie B. Holland. His older sister, Annie B. Williams, preceded him in death. He departed this life peacefully on November 10, 2012 at Harvest Homes Residential Care after a long battle with Alzheimer's.
He attended Wynnton Hill Baptist Church where he accepted Christ at an early age and Radcliff High School in Columbus. He and his family moved to Portland, Oregon during World War II. He entered the Navy and served honorably for 5 years.
When he returned from overseas he was sent to Newport, R. I. He later moved to Boston, MA where he married and had three children one of which, Alfonzia Holland III, preceded him in death. While residing in Boston he was employed at Ward Bread Company and American Electrical Supply.
He later left Boston, Ma and returned to Portland, Oregon where he married Annie B. Russell. He was employed at Alcoa Aluminum for 28 years. He retired in 1992. He was a skilled individual who loved working on projects around his home and helping others when needed. He was a long-time member of Billy Webb Lodge No. 1050 and Prince Hall Grand Lodge.
He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and a kind and faithful friend. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 53 years, Annie B. Holland; brother, Joseph P. Holland, Hampton, VA; sister, Mamie L. Carter (Ralph), Portland; sister-in law , Bessie P. Jordan, Baltimore, MD; daughters, Alicia Wade-Epps (Brent), Boston, Ma; Dianne M. Holland, Milton, MA; god-daughter, Angie Simmons, Vancouver, WA; seven grandchildren: Keith, Tyrone and Douglas Wade, Shayna and John Simmonds, Alfonzia and Lanea Holland Hagan, fourteen great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
