Alfred John Schedler

Alfred John Schedler   July 29, 1923 – October 23, 2019.  Reverend Alfred Schedler died on  October 23, 2019, passing peacefully into God’s presence.  Born in Portland, Oregon, Alfred was the youngest of four boys in Jack and Helen Schedler’s home. After graduating from Benson Polytechnic High School, he attended college in Portland before serving in the United States Army during World War Two in England, France and post-war Germany.  After the war, he graduated from Pacific Lutheran University.  He went on to Capital Seminary (Trinity Lutheran Seminary), graduating to become a Lutheran minister.  Reverend Schedler served churches in Ohio, South Dakota, Missouri, and Montana.  He returned to Portland in retirement, but he continued his ministry in the Finnish Lutheran community in Portland, Finland, and Russia. Reverend Schedler was a firm believer in the power of positive thinking, prayer, and tithing.  One retirement project was publishing a book regarding blessings and tithing.  He remained active in his interests for much of his life which included music, the church, prayer, keeping up on current events, and traveling including visiting family and his trips to Finland and Russia.  He was preceded in death by his wife Marian Kilmer and son Joseph Schedler.  Family survivors include his daughter Linda Schedler Winkler (husband David Maynard), son Timothy Schedler, stepdaughters Linda Kilmer Huff who faithfully and lovingly cared for him (husband Howard Huff) and Lorna Kilmer, and five grandchildren and step-grandchildren and their families.  He also leaves behind several close friends including Reverend Seppo Arias and Dan Anderson. He will be sorely missed. Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 9 at 1 pm at Faithful Savior Lutheran Church where he was a long-time member.  Military honors at Willamette National Cemetery at 1:30 pm Friday, November 8.
