Andres Ramos Gutierrez, known as Andy, of Portland, Oregon passed away at 73. He died peacefully and surrounded by family on June 2nd, 2021. Andy was born to Andres Gutierrez Sr. and Virginia Ramos on March 23, 1948, in Angeles City, Philippines. In the Philippines, he married Cynthia Torres and had four children; Michelle, Ryan, Sherry, and Shawn.
Andy was the lead singer of a well-known band called The Jaguars. Covering all the most popular songs of the time, The Jaguars traveled to Guam, Korea, and Japan to perform. In 1975, Andy and The Jaguars were offered a first-class ticket to The United States to perform for the USO (United Services Organization).
Eventually, Andy moved to and resided in Portland. Here, he married Janeen Strycharski and had a daughter, Morgan. The Jaguars continued to play along the west coast, gaining more and more fans with each performance.
In 1987, Andy remarried and had one daughter, Nicole, with Laura Angelovic and raised his stepson, Jason.
In 1996, Andy battled throat cancer and won! Though he survived, he could no longer sing. For the next 20+ years, Andy worked in the maintenance department of Albertson’s Warehouse, a job he was very proud of. That was the end of The Jaguars, but their memory lives on.
In this second phase of his life, Andy became a creature of habit. Every day was the same routine and that’s the way he liked it! He enjoyed cooking and he did it well! His love for music continued and he loved working in the yard. Andy has always made himself look good, that was important to him! To this day, you can find a pull-up bar and dumbbells in his apartment. Andy was known as a kind and generous man who was loved by anyone who was blessed enough to know him. His smile was the best and he always had a great joke to tell.
When he retired, Andy was content watching TV and eating pumpkin pie with his coffee! His motto was “you don’t do it every day!” Words that allowed those around him to indulge and feel happy about it.
Andy was a bright star in any room. Anyone who knew him was honored to know him and felt his warmth and charisma. He will be dearly missed by many.
Andy is survived by all of his children: Michelle, Ryan, Sherry, Shawn, Morgan (of California) Nicole (of Arizona), and Jason (of Oregon) his grandchildren: Justin, Jaymee, Dustin, Jericho, Madison, Mahri, and Tristan, as well as his siblings: Ma Bernardina, Rosario, and Avelina.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 2nd at Rose City Cemetery at 11:30. Please join us if you would like to honor Andy.
