Anne (Skirven) Wax was born in Salisbury, Md., the only
child of Charles Skirven and Alden (Richardson) Skirven.
Anne graduated from the College of William & Mary in 1962.
She moved to Portland and taught mathematics and chemistry
in the Portland schools while obtaining a Master of
Education from Portland State University (PSU). She moved
on to the Tigard/Tualatin School District and served as vice
principal and later principal of Fowler Junior High School.
During this time, she obtained a Doctorate of Education
from the University of Oregon and PSU.
Anne married Phil Wax in 1973 and joined his family of
three children. Anne was a superb classroom teacher and a
passionate and committed educator. While an administrator
for the school district, she also taught statistics to
educators taking courses at PSU. She was proud of her
educational achievements and teaching ability.
Anne committed herself fully to anything she undertook
including playing duplicate bridge or traveling every voyage
possible on the Queen Elizabeth II. She was committed to
family and friends, education, animal rights and the democratic
party. Anne is survived by her husband of 42 years,
Phil Wax; stepchildren, Philip Wax (Viola), Ellen Wax (David
Huffman) and Carmel Wax; five granddaughters; and many
friends. Services have been held. In lieu of flowers, Anne’s
family appreciates remembrances made in memory of
Anne to the Oregon Humane Society.
