Antonietta Marie Kanas
Antonietta was born July 19, 1920 at home in Portland, Oregon. Her father Vincenzo Mattia and mother Risina Digeso, were both Italian immigrants. "Toni" was preceeded in death by her parents, her three sisters; Carmalina Demarinis, Rita Lavarato, Elizabeth Williamson, her teenage son John in 1963, and her husband of 65 years Gust Kanas in 2010. As a teenager Tony worked in the family owned Rome Café and was later a seamstress for Cromwell Taylor. Following her marriage to Gust in 1945, and the births of her three children John, Steve and Kathleen, she worked for Pendleton Woolen Mills for 16 years. Besides being a proficient seamstress and crafter Toni loved to garden, was an excellent Greek and Italian cook, and was well known for her spectacular Greek pastries and famous cookies. Toni enjoyed entertaining in her home, decorating for the holidays and she loved the outdoors; camping, boating, fishing hiking and beach combing. Toni is survived by her son Steve, daughter Kathleen and grandsons John, Mark and Brian. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of Hearthstone Memory Care at Murray Hill, in particular Atousa, Nena and Tony's personal care givers. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, The Oregon Humane Society, or the charity of your choice.
