Arthur ("Art") Ernest Fisher was born on May 6, 1933, and passed to a higher calling on Monday January 18th 2016. He is survived by his daughter, Joy Voorhees, son-in-law Steve Voorhees, who he loved like a son, granddaughter Molly Voorhees, and grandson David Voorhees.. He was the oldest of five kids and was a big help to his mother while his dad was away for long periods of time working in a logging camp and then commercial fishing. In 1952, Art joined the Navy and was stationed on Midway Island. When he got out of the Navy, he met Julia and they were married in 1956. They had one child, Joy. Art loved working on his truck, tractor, and boat, and had a knack for fixing anything. It was nice to never have to call a repairman. His greatest love was being a truck driver. He worked at Western Block Company for 13 years without a vacation. After they sold the company, he went to work for Portland Sand & Gravel making deliveries and repairing the trucks as needed until his retirement. For many years he helped his in-laws on their farm until they no longer could, then he, Julia and Joy started their own farm and sold their produce at local farmers markets. Joy worked very closely with her dad helping him work on cars, tractors, moving irrigation and working in the fields. He taught her how to change a tire and oil as well as other necessary tasks a girl should know how to do if she were to ever get stranded. Work ethic and respect were huge in Art's mind. You could call on him day or night with any problem and he would help you no matter what. Art enjoyed the outdoors and loved Huckleberry picking at Mt. Adams, razor clamming, fishing and hunting. When his grandchildren, Molly and David came along, they were the apple of his eye. He picked them up from school every day and took them for afterschool snacks, which he also enjoyed! He spent every moment he could with them and they loved helping him out on the farm and just doing whatever they could with him; even listening to his country western oldies and watching John Wayne movies. Once they were old enough, the family went to Disneyland and Art, never having many vacations in his life, enjoyed that time with his family. Julia's health took a turn for the worse toward the beginning of 2000 and they ended up moving in with their daughter. When Julia passed away in 2012, Art's health started declining more drastically. Joy and her family, including his niece, Terri, took care of Art during these last few difficult years and, rather than dwelling on the difficulties, hope to remember him for the wonderful caring man, dad, uncle, and grandpa he truly was. You will be missed Dad. We love you very much!
