Sunday Morning August 24, Betty Lou was called home completing the Gentry Family circle.
She crossed over peacefully in the home of her son, James encircled by her children.
Born January 15, 1925 in Huntington, Arkansas to Tom and Lela Gentry. She was the second youngest of 11 children. Her Parents and 10 siblings preceded her in death.
She is survived by her first husband Leather Lloyd and their eight children Stephanie, Karen Barrett, Jad, Benita , Lee, Byron, Leslie and James. Her four grandchildren Brian, Joshua, Michelle and Heather. Daughter in law Gayla Lloyd and son in law Bill Barrett. Second husband Ken Dukes. Plus cousins and hundreds of close friends.
Betty Lou came to Portland, Oregon in 1942 to work in the shipyards. When work ceased she returned to Arkansas to graduate from Lincoln H. S. in 1946. Returning to Portland in 1947 , with her mother Lela and brother Remus. She had the distinction of babysitting the state's first African American quadruplets , the Tigners.
Marrying Leather Lloyd in 1948 .She did janitorial work at various banking institutions, art galleries , and schools. She would work nights at these jobs so that one parent was always at home with the children.
Her greatest love was sewing and a gift from God it was .Designing outfits for her kids, friends or herself. People were in awe of her detailed needle work and the sheer beauty of the clothes she made.
An avid gardener Betty Lou would share her mustard greens year round with friends and neighbors.
Calla Lilly's were one of her favorite flowers.
A consistent , true and honest person is how she'll be remembered . She met strangers and they left as her friends.
Our queen with the warriors heart who tirelessly gave for her children can now rest.
Betty Lou will be remembered and missed often , and forgotten never.
