Beulah, known to family and friends as "Baby Sister," and "Bea," passed away peacefully on November 5, 2024, in Portland Oregon, at the age of ninety-three. Born on January 1, 1931, in Bessemer, Alabama, to Ernest Fowlkes and Minnie Averette. At the age of thirteen Beaulah relocated to Vanport Oregon, where she later became the biological mother of eight children and a mothering figure to many more.
Her life was filled with laughter, love, and joy, witnessed, and cherished by all who knew her. Beulah’s career included many years with the telephone company Ma Bell and a brief stint with Service Master. Beulah is survived by her seven children and bonus child, Joyce Etheridge of Atlanta GA, Sandra Carter and Pamela Abraham of Winston-Salem NC, Stepanie Ferguson(Robert) of Austin Texas, Willie “Jamie” Huntington (Sarah) of Vancouver WA, Margaret Abraham, Sheila Abraham, and Kimberly Bryant of Portland OR, siblings; Charles Fowlkes(Rena), Denson Fowlkes, and Shirley Daniels of Portland OR, 17 grandchildren, 30 greatgrandchildren, 14 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, and extended family.
She is preceded in death by her parents; Ernest Fowlkes and Minnie Calhoun, three brothers, James Fowlkes, Richard Fowlkes, and Calvin Calhoun, her beloved son Freddie Abraham Sr, and three grandsons, Maurice Carter, Freddie Abraham Jr. and Tyrone Abraham Sr. With her “tell it like it is” attitude, her storytelling brought joy and laughter to countless gatherings. She loved good food, good music and dancing and yes, she was known to “Shake atail feather or two”. She added light to the lives of everyone she touched, she was indeed a Social Butterfly.
She was known for slapping mean cards and spanking many butts in dominoes .Beulah was an avid sports fan, a true “Ride or Die” Trail Blazer, her granddaughter Marchae would often go to her house and watch the games with her. Beulah was also a member of a bowling league for many years.With her Firecracker spirit and a heart of strength, all will miss Beulah’s vibrant presence. Her memory will live on through the love, strength, and wisdom she imparted to her family and friends.
