Bruce was born in Portsmouth,Va. July 1, 1947. His father was a Captain in the Navy, therefore the family relocated often. He attended Randolph Macon Military Academy in Virginia for high school. After high school, he proudly served in the US Marine Corps and remained stateside for his military service. Bruce attended Cal State LA, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Education. He met his wife of 49 years in Los Angeles, Ca. They were married June 26, 1975. They spent a year in the Peace Corps teaching English as a second language in Pohnpei, Micronesia. On their return, Bruce was hired by the Sweet Home School District in Oregon, where he taught grade school until his retirement.
Bruce, a beloved family man, was known for his easy laughter, great smile, beautiful blue eyes, and kind, loving nature. He loved teaching children and working alongside his fellow colleagues and educators. He enjoyed coaching and playing sports at the grade school and high school levels. Bruce was always active, he was passionate about many sports including windsurfing, tennis, softball, and golf. In his later years, golf became his passion which he loved to share, playing with his wife, family, and friends.
His greatest love was his family. Bruce is survived by his wife, Rebecca Ponti Flory, and his daughter Emily Flory Greenly, son-in-law Chad Elliott Greenly, and two grand-children, Jack Neal Greenly and Charlotte Jeanne Greenly, and his German Shepherd Beau. Bruce passed peacefully on April 20, 2024. He was 76 years young. Bruce was loved completely by his family, and he loved his family back with the same intensity. Bruce was surrounded by his family, and at peace in his home, when he passed. We will miss his presence with each moment, but his memory will live within us forever.
