Our mother, grandmother, sister and dear friend Carla J Floyd past president of CWA Local 7901 passed away on June 27, 2012 at her home in Portland Oregon.
Carla served as president of the local CWA 7901 for many years. She negotiated numerous collective bargaining agreements and represented workers of various employers, including assisting with the negotiations between unions and employees of Local 11 OPEIU. She served as the labor representative on the Multnomah County Civil Service Board.
She also was involved in organizing new workers and helping people enjoy being part of organized labor.
Activism came early in Carla's life as she served as a Vista volunteer prior to starting her career with Pacific Northwest Bell.
Before becoming the Local President for CWA Carla was an active steward and Executive Vice President of the local. She chaired many committees within the local including Community Services.
Her current job was as a Health Benefits Coordinator working with both labor and management at CenturyLink. Carla's assistance helped both employees and retirees as they worked through medical insurance issues.
Away from work Carla loved to knit and read. She loved everything British, particularly stories of struggles by the English people in the 17th and 18th century.
She was a lifelong lover of folk music especially the Weavers and Joan Baez, but her all time favorite was Bruce Springsteen.
Carla is survived by her daughter Aimee and grandson Ethan. She was looking forward to retirement and being full time "Oma" to Ethan as he grew up.
