Caroline Shirley (Zajac) Ira-Powell
April 19, 1931 — May 31, 2014
Caroline S. Ira-Powell, 84, of Portland, passed away May 31, 2014 surrounded by family and friends.
She grew up in Northeast Portland and graduated from Grant High School in 1948.
Her greatest joy in life was being a wife and mother. She enjoyed being involved with her children and their many activities. Caroline was married to Dean Ira from 1952 until his passing in 1992. She later married Donald Powell.
She was a member of several Portland-area square dance clubs for many years. She worked as a secretary for Portland Public Schools, retiring from Madison High School in 1994.
Caroline spent retirement traveling, gardening, dancing and spending time with family and friends.
Caroline is survived by husband Donald Powell; daughters Kathy Ira of Milwaukie, and Shirley Ira of Portland; and cousin Gerry Dettloff.
Her family would like to thank her care companion, Sally, and all of those who cared for her at Powell Valley.
Caroline's family welcomes all those who loved her to join in a celebration of her life on Friday, June 6, 2014 at 12:00 noon at Rose City Funeral Home Chapel.
