Caseal B. Noree also known as “Jackie” was born to Ollie Bailey Buckhanan and Frank Buckhanan on June 15, 1920 in Bienville , Louisiana. She was born twenty-eight minutes before her twin sister Lucille, making her the 11 th of 14 children. She was baptized in 1931 at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Arcadia, Louisiana. Caseal graduated from Crawford High School in 1938 also in Arcadia, Louisiana. In 1941, she earned a cosmetology license from Madame C.J. Walker College of Beauty Culture located in Shreveport, Louisiana. In 1946 she married Samuel Noree, who passed on in 1950.
Caseal relocated to Portland, Oregon in 1952 where she continued to do hair until the mid ’60s. She later became employed by Morgan’s Alley located in downtown Portland, where she worked as a custodian until she retired in 1984. After retiring, Caseal graciously volunteered her time. She served those in need by helping at the Oregon Food Bank. She also assisted in the nursery at Peninsula daycare, where she nurtured babies and was affectionately called Grandmommy Cassie. Caseal became a member of Allen Temple Church in 1957 and remained a member throughout the rest of her life. She also served in Allen Temple’s emergency aid center.
In her leisure, she enjoyed family dinners, listening to music, and playing cards, particularly Bid Whist. Caseal baked exceptional macaroni and cheese and sweet potato pies. She had a great sense of humor and a smile that could light up a room. She will truly be missed.
Caseal departed this life on April 9, 2015, at Portland, Oregon’s Emanuel Hospital. She was preceded in death by her 12 siblings, her great great nephew Jamil Edward Myrick, and her loving niece Bobbi Jean Jackson. She is survived by her beloved twin sister, Lucille Nixon. Caseal also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews: One niece; two nephews; two great nieces; three great nephews; five great great nieces; three great great great nephews; four great great great nieces; and two great great great great nephews.
