Born in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada, the last of Harold & Mary E. Pendergast’s six children (James, Elizabeth, William, Frank and “the twins” Michael and Marian) Marian attended St. Columban’s Convent School; Cornwall Collegiate & Vocational School; and Cornwall Commercial College. “Penny” as she was known locally in the business world, had a varied career as a Secretary in Designing, Law, Television Sales and Travel all of which she applied during her 17 years as a successful entrepreneur in the Portland area.
Penny was a forerunner in the Gourmet Coffee/Espresso business combining her unique Coffee shop with Greeting Cards and Gifts – one located in the Hollywood District and the second in the Gateway Shopping Area where she carried an extensive variety of 46 coffee beans. After retiring in 1994 she continued on a part time basis as the “buyer" for the card section of the 42nd Street Postal Station and as a volunteer at Portland Providence Hospital.
Predeceased by her husband, Dale F. Sundholm in 2016 and her son Ronnie G. Harris in 1966 of Cystic Fibrosis, she is survived by her three children and their spouses: Donna–Lee and Colin Stout; C. Frank and Cindy Harris; Eric J. and Melody Harris; six grandchildren: Mairin–Anne Moore Cane, MacKenzie T. Stout; Christopher Harris; Matthew J., Patrick C. Harris, and Kristina L. Diaz and ten great-grandchildren. Penny is also survived by three step-children and their spouses – Pastors Rodney and Rebecca Sundholm; Ronald and Carol Sundholm, and Cheryl L. Sundholm; ten step-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren.
Those who knew Penny will remember her for her love of life, travel and adventure as well as her sense of humor. A new door has opened for her – one she will meet with some regret and anticipation.
