On January 18, 1937, Julius and Ophalia Watson had the honor of welcoming Corine Watson into the world. Corine was born and raised in Palmer, Texas, one of 22 children born to the Watson Family. In 1952, Corine married a tall handsome fellow, John E. Brown, and moved to Phoenix, Arizona to start a family. After spending several years in Arizona, Corine and John decided to move their family to Portland, Oregon in 1966. Here the Brown family continued to grow in size, strength and love. She gave birth to 13 children: seven boys and six girls. Corine's family always came first. She showed that by opening her home to everyone. Corine instilled strong family values into her children and grandchildren such as respecting your elders, honesty and to be thankful for what you have. When it came to her grandchildren there was no denying the constant love and affection that she gave. Her door was always open no matter the time of day. Corine gave 100 percent in whatever tasks she took on, whether in the cotton field, berry field or just in her kitchen putting together a meal. She was no stranger in the kitchen, which kept her children from straying away from home. She was well known for her candy yams. Corine leaves us to celebrate her home going. She is survived by 12 children: Florine Hudson, Otha Lee Brown, V'esther Brown (Tilisha), Jewel Graham (Dennis), Tommy Lee Brown (Kim), Slyvesther Brown, Norman Brown (Lisa), Sammy David Brown (Perlene), Johnny Ray Brown (Carla) all of Portland, Oregon; Johnnie Mae MayPield (James), Rosetta Brown--Aa,ABailey (Alvin) of Vancouver, Washington; Janice Loraine Brown of Phoenix, Arizona. Her son Samuel Lee Brown precedes her in death. Corine is also survived by one brother, James Willie Watson, and four sisters Louise Beasley, Laura Mae Hillman, Shirley Jean Johnson all of Portland, Oregon and Pearlie Mae Robinson of Baltimore, Maryland. Sixty--Aa,Aseven grandchildren, 62 great-- grandchildren, five great--Aa,Agreat--Aa,Agrandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Corine was a lifeline to her family, friends and to those who she came in contact with. She will be missed but never forgotten.
