David P. Weigandt
April 2 nd 1922 – September 27 th , 2014
David Philip Weigandt, 92 passed away Saturday morning, September 27th, 2014. A lifelong resident of Portland, David was born in his family home on Northeast Stanton Street to Volga German parents Christina and Philip Weigandt. He was the first of four children.
David graduated from Benson High School and had many different interests throughout his life. He was a trumpet player in many different bands, entertaining around the Northwest. He enjoyed raising fish and had a small tropical fish business for a period of time. As a young man, David worked at the Portland Ship Yards before serving as a Merchant Marine on four different ships during World War II.
David lost an arm in an accident while in his twenties, but he quickly adapted and could do just about anything with one arm including waterskiing, tying shoes and building and flying RC model airplanes. He spent many afternoons flying at “the field” and won many RC competitions.
David became an auto salesman and met his wife while helping her purchase a car! In 1968, he married Betty Beckett in White Salmon, Washington at the age of 46. They recently celebrated 46 years of marriage! Together David and Betty had two daughters and one granddaughter.
His survivors include his wife, Betty; daughter Nancy Weigandt; daughter April Heflen (Chris); granddaughter Ava Heflen; sister, Ruth Olson; brother, Ben Weigandt; nieces and nephews and many dear friends. His brother, Philip Weigandt preceded him in death.
