Loving husband, father and grandfather, Seaman Delbert Ray Tyler went home to Jesus on April 9th at the age of 89. Del was a veteran who served in the Navy in Corpus Christi, Texas during the Korean war. He received the National Defense Service Medal.
Del was born to Grace and Virden Tyler on February 16, 1933 in Boardman, Oregon. After spending his childhood in Eastern Oregon, he, his mother and siblings moved to Portland, Oregon in 1946 . Once Del graduated from Washington High School in 1952, he worked at the Oregonian until he joined the Navy.
Del met his wife, Evy in Minneapolis in 1957. They were married just four months later and went on to have two children, Pam and Steve settling in NE Portland. After a career at ESCO, Del became a working shareholder of Multnomah Plywood for over 25 years until its closure in 1992.
Del is survived by his loving spouse of 64 years, Evelyn Tyler, his two children Pam Finley (Steve), Steve Tyler (Lisa), five grandchildren, Megan, Joseph, Michaela, Allison and Matthew, and his great grandson, Theo. He also leaves behind siblings, nieces, nephews, step grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as many friends from every season of his life.
There will be a gathering with friends and family to honor and celebrate Del’s life at 1:00pm, Wednesday, April 20th at the Rose City Cemetery and Funeral Home at 5625 NE Fremont St, Portland, OR 97213.
