Diane Christine Burns (Andersen), aged 73, passed away on July 14, 2024, surrounded by her family and friends in Portland, Oregon. Born on August 24, 1950, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the youngest of 4 children raised on the working family farm in Dike, IA. Diane was a vibrant and outgoing individual who embraced life with zeal and a spirit of adventure.
Diane dedicated her 30-year career to educating young minds as an elementary school teacher in the Parkrose school district. She was beloved for her ability to recognize and nurture the unique qualities of each student, instilling in them the confidence to make a positive impact in the world.
Diane was the heart and soul of her family, a woman of faith who brought so much comfort and joy to those around her. As a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, her love was endless and made everyone feel special. Always there with an open ear, Diane offered a listening heart, comforting words, and wise advice, making everyone feel heard and valued. Whether it was sharing a quiet moment or enjoying a fun outing, she created lasting memories, enriching the lives of her loved ones
Her passion for travel and love of nature and the outdoors inspired countless family road trips, where she explored numerous national parks and landmarks along the way. Diane's laughter was infectious, filling every room and elevating the mood during spirited games and lively conversations. She truly made the world a brighter place, and her legacy of love and kindness will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know her.
Diane is survived by her sons, Justin and Joshua Burns; granddaughters, Ashley Fritchie and Amber Burns; and great-grandsons, Emmit and Elliot. She was preceded in death by her father, Erhart Andersen; mother, Agnes Sloth Andersen; and brothers, Kenneth, Ronald, and Gary Andersen.
A celebration of Diane's life will be held at Rose City Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Diane's memory can be made to the Alzheimer's Association at ALZ.org, a cause close to her heart. Diane will be remembered for her generous spirit, her dedication to her family, friends, and students, and her enduring influence on all who knew her.
