Donald William Aspros

March 11, 1932 — September 1, 2021

Donald W Aspros was born in Portland, Oregon on March 11, 1932 the son of Georgia and William Aspros.  He was raised by Georgia and step father James Karussos.  He graduated from Washington High school in Portland Oregon and received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Oregon.

Don served in the US Navy, followed by a long and successful career at the Port of Portland Marine Terminal Division in Portland Oregon.  Don fell in love and married the love of his life Mary.  The two were married for more than 63 years.  They both devoted their live raising two children, Elisa Aspros Poynter and James Aspros.

Don was active in the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Portland Oregon, serving as a member of the Cathedral Parish Council and  past President of the local American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association where actively participated until his passing.  In addition, Don assisted his beloved wife Mary at the Philo House Thrift Shop where she was Manager.  He was involved as a volunteer at the annual Greek Festival.  For many years, he worked in the kitchen making his world famous Manestra served as part of the authentic Greek meal.

Over the years, Don and Mary were proud to be caring parents of two children.  Don and Mary took the family on many fun trips and vacations.  After Don’s retirement in 1987, they loved spending time going on cruises.  Eleven to be exact!  They also took many trips to Europe and Greece and visited other countries, including Australia to visit Don’s family down under.   In addition to traveling, Don and Mary were avid supporters of the arts and attended the Oregon Symphony regularly.  A life filled with culture.

Another area of enjoyment with family was spending time at their beach house in Lincoln City, Oregon.  Don and Mary would make the trip to the beach house twice a month to enjoy time away from Portland and Don did so up until his passing.

In addition to being a loving husband and devoted father, Don was a person of great integrity, kind to all, and a strong sense of faith.  He was loved and respected by so many who knew him.  Don will be greatly missed.

His daughter Elisa, (Larry) and son James, sister Marcia, sisters in law Christina Demas and Katina Isaacson, along with many nieces and nephews and Godsons survive him along with her beloved grand dog Kingsley.
