Don passed away at the age of 78 on Nov. 15th with his family at his bedside. Don was born in Newport, Washington, to Walter and Dorothy DeLong. His family moved to Vanport, Oregon, during the war and eventually settled in Orchards, Washington. Don graduated from Evergreen High School and Clark College in Vancouver.
He served in the Naval Reserve for eight years and worked in sales for FMC Link Belt. After a short retirement, he went back to work as a self-employed courier delivering parts to various companies. He primarily delivered parts for Western Machine and called his business “Don’s Truck.”
Don married Norma 55 years ago on Nov. 21, 1959. They are blessed with four children, Mark, Erik, Kirk, and Kari. Don had no siblings but was rich with grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church at 7610 NE Fremont in Portland at 4 PM on Monday, Nov. 24th. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to Grace Lutheran School, 2252 SE 92nd Ave, Portland OR 97216.
Don was loved by all and will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
