Doris Rush

April 20, 1961 — December 5, 2018

“A Life Well Lived”

Doris Rush, known affectionately as “Boo” by family and many friends was born April 20, 1961  in Dekalb Mississippi, the youngest of five beautiful daughter’s of Mabel Rush and Lindburgh Rush. Doris left this early existence on  December 5th, 2018.

At a very early age Doris moved with her family to Portland Oregon in 1965. Doris was an energetic young woman who stayed busy with her sisters as they grew up and thrived in the greater Pacific Northwest. Doris graduated from middle and high school in Portland and as a young lady moved to Texas. Doris thrived, grew, and gained many friends while in Texas, eventually moving back to Portland to be closer to her parents, sisters and other family in the area. Doris worked and excelled with many employers in Portland and the Pacific Northwest, with some of her employers being Wells Fargo, Web MD, and her dream and last job at Intel in Hillsboro, OR.

Doris was a God loving people person, a believer who had a deep spirituality very few knew about. She was a fiercely independent, young, positive Black / African American Woman who took great pride in her and our culture and loved volunteering to help and assist those who were less fortunate. Her volunteer spirit was shown by how she worked so hard on Portland’s annual celebration and many other projects too numerous to mention.  Doris was also known locally as an outstanding model and event planner, and was known by all, especially her family and good friends as a fashionista. She was also known as a no nonsense Lady when it came to how people were treated, questions of right and wrong, and would not hesitate to tell you, anyone if and when she thought you were wrong. Doris had a deep love and affection for all her family, especially her nieces and nephews, a Love that will be greatly missed by the family and everyone that was blessed to know Doris.

Doris brought passion, skill, dedication, and love to everything and everyone she touched and will be remembered as an outstanding loving daughter, sister, sister in law, aunt, model, event planner, and good friend to so many.

Doris is survived by her sisters, Bobby Rush-Rice, of Portland, Oregon, Redia Faye Newsom, of Vancouver, Washington,  Zahra Asim, of Kent, Washington Niece Demetrius James, and  host of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers in law, good friends like family, and many that loved and appreciated her.

The Rush, Asim, Mckinney, Newsom, Jack, James, and Rice families appreciate all of the love, prayers, sympathy, words of encouragement, and condolences sent to the family by so many from across the area and nation.
