Dorothy Jenkins, née Kahle, died Saturday, January 23rd, 2016, the day after her much anticipated 92nd birthday. Dorothy was born in Nampa, Idaho to Rev. H. A. Kahle and Johanna (Hartmann) Kahle. She was preceded in death by her husband Cullen Jenkins, and is survived by her sister-in-law Betty Kahle, and by three nieces, many great-nephews and nieces, and one great-great niece, who will all sorely miss their beloved Aunt Dorothy. Dorothy spent the last years of her life at King City, Summerfield, and SpringRidge at Charbonneau, where she left many friends, particularly her long-time dear friend, Ann Jorgens. For the bulk of her working life, she worked as the office manager for Drs. Snedecor, Baker, Awe, and Eidemiller.
Dorothy was a choir director and an organist at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sherwood, OR, culminating a lifetime of involvement with music, which ranged from being a member of the Nampa High School Marching Band, through singing opera professionally in Seattle, to ongoing exploration of a wide variety of instruments. She played piano and organ for many Lutheran churches, and shared her passion for music through years of giving piano lessons.
She had an equal love for exploring other fine arts. Dorothy was a skilled photographer and had a darkroom in her basement for many years. She also painted with much enjoyment into her late eighties, and created many small handcrafts. She encouraged and supported every artistic endeavor in those around her, leaving the legacy that creativity enriches and elevates daily life.
