Dorothy Arline (Stubblefield) Parsons was born to Lowell and Beatrice Stubblefield on August 13th, 1924. A fourth generation Oregonian, Dorothy grew up with her four sisters and one brother in the Willamette Valley, graduating from Grant High School and then attending the University of Washington. While a student at the University, Dorothy met James (Jim) Parsons through a mutual friend. Jim subsequently went into the Army during WWII and, while he served overseas, Dorothy worked as a welder in the Portland shipyards.
Jim and Dorothy were married on May 4th, 1947, and were together for 61 years until Jima(TM)s death in 2008. They had four sons and a daughter; Robert, William, Terry, Peter and Shirley. The family lived in the Wilshire district of Portland where Dorothy was a homemaker and active volunteer in her childrena(TM)s schools and at Bethany Lutheran Church. Her faith in the Lord was the driving force in her life and she imparted that love to her children.
Dorothy loved vacationing with her growing family at Odell Lake where her parents had a cabin. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband to Kauai, Hawaii, where she swam, snorkeled and hiked.
Dorothy worked outside the home as her children grew up and was church secretary for many years at First Immanuel Lutheran Church until she retired at age 62.
Dorothya(TM)s passion was raising children and her home was the one where all the neighborhood kids wanted to play. She was a~Moma(TM) to her childrena(TM)s friends, many of whom have remained close to her throughout her life. She delighted in her 10 grandchildren and became a great-grandmother for the sixth time in July.
Hers is a legacy of devotion to God, love for her husband and children, and steadfast friend to the countless people who crossed her path. She took especial joy in giving to those whom she felt were in need, often denying herself in her desire to help others. While her children and grandchildren grieve the loss of their mother and grandmother, they know the joy of those who have awaited her in heaven is far greater than their own sorrow. Her final prayer was that God would walk her to heaven when she could no longer walk, and He has graciously granted her request. We will miss you.
