Dorothy Margaret Weber

July 24, 1923 — August 27, 2017

Dorothy died peacefully, at age 94, with family by her side.  She was born July 24th, 1923, in Duluth, Minnesota to Alice Josephine Harvey and Ralph Titus Sedell, and the family then moved to Portland when she was 18 months old.  She graduated from Jefferson High School in Portland at age 16 and was forced to wait a year, until she was 18, to begin attending Emanuel School of Nursing.  It was there she met her lifelong friend, Annie, and soon-to-be husband Elmer Carl Weber who was one of her patients.  Dorothy and Elmer were married October, 1942, and eventually welcomed three children into the world…Marilyn Anne, Michael Edward, and Mark Allen.

Those who predeceased Dorothy include parents, Ralph and Alice Sedell, husband, Elmer Carl Weber, sister, Ethel Maxine Baldwin, and son, Michael Edward Weber.  Dorothy is survived by sister Gloria Saunders, daughter Marilyn Dessert (Mike), son Mark Weber, 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was a generous and loving person.  An accomplished seamstress, she created innumerable items of clothing in her lifetime, including formal wedding attire.  She even worked for a period of time at Jantzen, where she put her sewing skills to work making swim suits.  She also loved her hands in the dirt and raised fuchsias as a special interest.  She sang with the Beaumont Elementary School Mothers’ Chorus for several years and for many more years sang in her church choir.  She was a prolific letter writer, maintaining an every week exchange with friend Annie throughout much of her life.  Dorothy was a dedicated member of Highland Baptist Church for nearly her entire life.  When that church disbanded, she attended Grant Park Baptist Church until she was physically unable to do so.

If you wish, donate to the charity of your choice, in Dorothy’s name.
