Edward “Ed” A. Erickson

A Celebration of Ed’s Life will be held at the clubhouse at Eastmoreland Golf Course on Friday, April 28th starting at 4:00 pm.  Internment is at Rose City Cemetery.

Ed Erickson passed away peacefully at his home March 23, 2017.  A longtime Portland resident, Ed was born April 1, 1939 in Glasgow, Montana to Knute and Agnes Erickson.  Ed’s family first moved to Ordnance, Oregon where his father worked at the U.S Army ordnance depot throughout WWII.  At the end of the war, the family moved to Hermiston where Ed began grade school.  A later move brought Ed to Portland where he attended Beaumont Grade and Grant High Schools.  Ed graduated from Portland State College in 1962.  His first career was with the Boeing Company, assisting them with their Minuteman missile defense program in Montana, North Dakota, and Missouri.  Leaving Boeing after a few years, Ed joined two long-time friends for a memorable six-month driving trip through Europe.  Returning to Portland, Ed began a long career with Traveler’s Insurance Company as their Portland office manager.

Ed was an active sports fan, but no sport was more important to Ed than golf.  Ed’s life-long joy of golfing took him to many courses throughout the West.  A good day for Ed consisted of a round of golf with friends, possibly at Broadmoor Golf Course, and plenty of time at the “19th” hole, at the clubhouse or elsewhere.  Ed played in many golf tournaments, but the highlight of the year was always his play in the Al Giusti Golf Tournament.  Ed was also an active committee member for several Grant High School class of 1957 reunions.  Getting together with long-time high school friends was something Ed always looked forward to.  He was already planning for the upcoming 60th reunion later this year.

Ed’s great love and his long-time companion, Marge Chamberlain, spent many years together.  Planning their several trips and cruises as well as family gatherings were always important to them.  Europe, Mexico, South and Central America, Alaska, Hawaii, U.S. East Coast, and Canada were among the many pleasurable cruises they took.  Annual month-long trips to Palm Springs were special winter breaks for them.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents and Marge Chamberlain.  He is survived by his brother, Robert (Maggie) Erickson of Beaverton, nephew Christopher (Sarah) Erickson and niece, Elizabeth (Nic Lane) Erickson, both of Portland.

Remembrances may be made to the American Heart Association of Oregon or the National Kidney Foundation in lieu of flowers.
