Elaine was born February 2, 1928, in Portland to Swedish and German immigrant parents, Albert and Elin Roehm. She passed away on January 17, 2009. She graduated from Boise Grade School and Jefferson High School. She later attended business college in the Portland area.
She worked several jobs throughout her life; Roehm Hardware, the family business, Shell Oil Company, Goldrainer, Carmichael and Swanson CPA firm. For many years she sold AVON and was known fondly by many in her neighborhood as 'the AVON lady'. She retired in 1997 from Bonneville Power where she contracted as an accounting clerk.
She married James Barrett in 1954. She had three children. One of her twin sons, Eddy, died as an infant.
She raised her family in the Concordia neighborhood and was active in her children's school. Over the years she adored her three grandchildren and beloved Norwegian Elkhound dogs.
She is survived by her husband, James Barrett; two children, Robert Barrett and wife, Cindy, Kim Laidlaw and husband, Alan; and three grandchildren, Chris, Matthew, Ryan.
Son, Edward, preceded her in death.
The family suggests donations to the Oregon Humane Society or Robison Jewish Health Center.
