Elizabeth Omega Johnson passed away on Thursday, September 8th, 2016 in Vancouver, Washington at her granddaughter's home, surrounded by her family's care and love. Elizabeth was 94 years old.
Elizabeth is survived by her daughter Sharon Fields of Vancouver, WA; grandchildren Kristine Canham of Sandy, OR, Kim Lybarger & husband Troy of Missouri, Karina Schmahl & husband Jeff of Vancouver, WA. Step grandchildren David, Jordan, Eldon Jr, Byron & Darron Fields, Daniel Barnard, Lexi, Christy & Jeff Lybarger. Great grandchildren Jesse & Laicina Canham, Brittany Brand & Kathleen Robitsch, & Garrett & Tanna Schmahl. Great Great Grandchildren Abbigail Brand, Zake Canham & Peyton Barnard. And lots of extended family. She is preceded in death by her brother Delbert Parker, mother Ocie Mae Poutala, husband Lester Johnson, father Okla Homer Parker, & sister Murrel Gray Parker.
Elizabeth married her husband Lester at age 17. Lester went to see the Lord in 1979. They were married for 40 years & 4 months. Their first date was a double date with her friend Marg. They went to Seaside, OR. Lester took Elizabeth on an airplane ride over the ocean. He asked her for a second date, and the rest is history. They purchased their first home in 1941.
Since she married so young, she didn’t get to finish High School. She later went and got her GED in 1970. She was 49 years old. She was very proud of this accomplishment.
Her children & grandchildren remember her as a kind, gentle, loving mother & grandmother who was always there for them no matter what. She was proud of her daughter Sharon with how she applied herself to everything she decided to do.
Elizabeth was accomplished at knitting and sewing and she made clothes for the grandchildren and the grandchildren’s baby dolls and Barbie dolls. She sewed blankets for them as well. She volunteered at Del’s Care Center. She sewed all the staff smocks in different colors depending on what they did there. She was a selfless individual who loved being with her family and who was passionate about doing the Lords work. She was an active and dedicated member of the Lutheran Church. She especially loved going to Peace Lutheran Church Easter services. She was part of the church board and choir for many years. Her desire is for her family to revive going to Sunday school and church services. In her earlier years she and Lester fostered many children.
The one last thought that helped her most in life was “What does the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, to love mercy & to walk humbly with thy God.
The family would like to thank Kaiser Hospice for their wonderful care & compassion during her last days.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date with private burial at Rose City Cemetery.
