Esther A. Adam, a long time resident of Portland, passed away May 23, 2007 at a local nursing home. Esther began her life journey in November, 1922 in Golden Prairie, Saskatchewan. She was an independent lady of her generation, doing missionary work in Kodiak, Alaska in the 1950s, and then moving on to Denver, Colorado working as a ward secretary in several hospitals. In the 1970s she moved to Portland, Oregon where she continued her work in several area hospitals until retiring in 1987.
Her great joys in life were singing in the church choir, gardening, interior decorating and cooking. She was a gracious lady with a cute giggle and spry step when she went for her daily walks around her local park. But most of all Esther held a deep abiding faith in a loving God and the hope of eternal life.
She was predeceased by her parents Christof and Kathryn Adam and two brothers and a sister. She is survived by a brother and three sisters and numerous nieces and nephews living throughout Canada and the US. Esther spent several years caring for her younger sister Ruth who predeceased her in 1994. Ward, Valerie and Stanford are forever grateful to "Auntie Es" for her care of their mother in her final days.
Esther's family is grateful to Maria and Cornel Danciu and their family for being dedicated and companionate care givers for the past year. Thank you also to the staff of Porthaven Care Center and Signature Hospice for their care of Esther in her final days.
Gaveside Service and Interment will be held on Saturday, June 2nd at 11AM at Rose City Cemetery at 57th and Fremont.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you give a memorial gift to your favorite charity.
