Fay Marcella Murphy

Monday, August 23, 1920 to Thursday, June 15, 2017

Fay Marcella Murphy, 96, passed from this life to be with the Lord on June 15, 2017 surrounded with loving family.  She was born in Redmond, Oregon to Marion and Mollie Taylor. She graduated from Redmond High School and met George Thomas Murphy, Jr. at Deschutes County Fair in 1935. They were married in Ellensburg, WA on September 17, 1938 and  were married for over 56 years until George’s death. Fay lived her life in Redmond up to 1950 when she and George moved with their children from Bend to Portland. As her younger children got to school age, Fay worked part time for Olds & King (later Rhodes) and Nordstrom while tending to her 6 children.

Fay and George were members of Calvary Presbyterian Church and Fay continued her membership for 63 years. They also spent many happy years at their second home in Cannon Beach. Fay loved her family, gardening, took pride in her home, and was affectionately called “Grandma Jelly bean” by her great-grandchildren since she always had Jelly beans for all to enjoy when they visited. Fay read her Bible daily along with the Upper Room daily devotions. She had a true devotion to her faith that she demonstrated in the way she lived life, and reflected to her children.

Fay was preceded in death by her husband George, parents and brothers, Sidney and Irwin, and son in law Gary Baker.  She is survived by all of her 6 children. Monte (Patti), Robert (Joyce), Sharon (Lynn) Sanders, Maureen Baker, Molly Colleen Murphy and Kathleen Murphy, 15 (1 deceased), grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren plus more great-great!

Our mother, Fay will be remembered by many to be a beautiful sweet and strong loving woman, wife, and mother. She was blessed to live independently in her own home up to the time of her passing. She will be so missed by many, but especially each of her children.

Fay’s family has planned a private family viewing and graveside service where she will be laid to rest with her husband George at Rose City Cemetery.

Our Mother often donated to Loaves and Fishes. In lieu of flowers, we suggest a donation to them or Calvary Presbyterian Church.

We commend our Mother to the Lord Jesus Christ.
