Floyd Wayne Ragan

February 26, 1931 — March 1, 2010

Floyd Wayne Ragan was born in Liberty, Texas on February 26, 1931. A fourth generation and lifelong Texan, Floyd grew up in South Texas. He was attending Kingsville Community College in 1950 when he decided to join the Air Force during the Korean War. Trained as a Radio Operator, he was stationed at the Rhine Mein Air Force Base, and flew supply missions for NATO across Europe and Africa. He served 4 years and was honorably discharged at the end of his service. Upon his return, with the help of the Gl Bill, he earned both a BS and an MS in Education from Texas A & I University in Kingsville (now part of the Texas A & M system). While teaching in Corpus Christi, he met Billie Jean Seiler. They married in 1957 and were together 29 years until her death in 1987. Floyd worked in the public school districts of Round Rock and Hurst, Euless, Bedford (H.E.B.) as a devoted and much loved 6th grade teacher until his retirement in 1989. Moving to Granbury, Texas in 1991 with his second wife Pat Duval, Floyd co-created a custom home building business and enjoyed success with that effort until re-locating to Los Angeles, California in 2003. His move to LA brought him nearer to his only grandchild, Olivia, born in 2001. The spirit of adventure brought him to Portland, Oregon, in June of 2009. Floyd passed away at age 79 from complications of Hodgkins Lymphoma on March 1, 2010. He is survived by his daughter Randi Ragan, of Los Angeles, California, her husband Richard Neil, and their daughter Olivia; his son Kelly Ragan of Portland Oregon, and his partner Rodrigo Aquirre; and his former wife, Pat Ragan of North Richland Hills, Texas. A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 2 pm at Bluebonnet Hills Cemetery5725 Colleyville Blvd. in Colleyville, Texas, open to all who knew and loved the deceased.
