Floyd was born in Portland to Robert Alonzo and Retta Mae (nee Winn) Younce. He was one of nine children, the youngest boy, and right in the middle. He grew up in St. John's, attended Roosevelt High School, and was involved in the ROTC. He briefly worked as a ship fitter after high school before joining the U.S. Army for the first time. He was discharged from the Army in 1941, only to be called back in Dec. of 1942. He served as medical technician during his time and was awarded a World War II Victory medal, American defense Service Medal, American Theatre Service Medal, a European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and a good conduct medal. He was honorably discharged in March of 1946.
Floyd met Ella Pischer through one of his younger sisters. The two fell in love, and in May of 1943, they married in Portland. Their union brought them two children: Roger and Linda. When Floyd returned from the Army he started working in the awning business. He worked for Broadway Awning, Fischel's, and started McGee Blind and Awning in the 1970's, which is a current company in the business today. Once the children were out of high school, Floyd retired from the business, @1985.
In their retirement, the two liked to travel the Caribbean on cruises. Floyd also loved to fish and golf. He and his buddies would golf 5 days a week in Oregon City.
Floyd is survived by his wife, Ella Younce; his children: Roger and Linda; Grandchildren: Branden, Ashley, Cailey and Sean; and his sisters: Theo and Delores. Floyd will be laid to rest at Rose City Cemetery.
