Fumiko Kato was born in Gresham, Oregon on May 1, 1914. She and her family returned to Japan in 1920 and shortly after their mother passed away and the children were raised by their stepmother. Fumi returned to Portland, Oregon at the age of 18. She operated a Laundry for a few years and said "It was very hard work". During WWII she was intered in Minidoka Camp in Idaho. In 1949 she married Mr. Henry Y. Kato, he passed away in 1964. She is survived by Yoneko Mihara, Sister, Karma Kara, great niece, Kelii Haraguchi, great nephew, a niece in law, Bonnie Haraguchi, many nieces and nephews also survive in Japan. She was an accomplished seamstress and an avid golfer playing with her friends for many years at the Eastmoreland Golf Course. Memorial services will be held on Friday February 9, 2007 at 10:00 AM at Rose City Funeral Home, Portland, Oregon. She will be cremated and her cremated remains will be placed in the Rose City Cemetery Columbarium.
