Gerald Ryder Lobb passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, October 10, 2016, at the age of 88 years. He was born December 22, 1927 in Seattle, Washington to Mary (nee Ryder) and Harold Lobb. At the age of five, his father was transferred from Seattle to San Diego, California, then later to Los Angeles and finally, in 1941, to Portland, Oregon.
Jerry attended Madeline Grade School and Central Catholic High School, graduating in 1946. After graduation from Central Catholic, he enlisted in the Army, and served with the Occupation troops in Japan as an MP with the First Cavalry Division. After his discharge, he attended the University of Portland, graduating in 1952. That same summer, he started his 37 year banking career, first with First National Bank of Oregon, and later with Far West Federal Savings Bank, retiring in 1989 with the title of Vice President.
Jerry and Cathy were married August 9, 1952 and just celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. They were blessed with three children and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, David and John (Jack). He is survived by his wife, Cathy, and children: Michael Lobb, Linda Hoffmaster (Steve) and Karen Lobb Montgomery (Doug); three grandsons: Adam Lobb, and Sean and Carson Hoffmaster as well as his brother, Bill Lobb.
After retiring, Jerry and Cathy enjoyed cruising: Alaska, Hawaii, Caribbean, Panama Canal, Mississippi River and Mexico. They also enjoyed several land tours around the United States, England and Ireland.
A member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church for 63 years, Jerry volunteered for many years, both in the church office, and with St. Vincent DePaul Food Bank.
The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be offered at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 2705 NE 54th Avenue, on Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at 11:30 a.m., with interment to follow at Willamette National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Central Catholic Endowment Fund, or St. Vincent DePaul Food Bank at St. Rose.
Jerry will be remembered for his friendliness and his smile.
