Gloria Jean Chavez

A funeral service will be held, 1pm, Thursday, September 10 ^th at Rose City Funeral Home for Mrs. Gloria Chavez. Gloria passed away August 29 ^th surrounded by her family’s love and support. She was 76 years old.

Gloria was born February 7, 1939 in Winslow, Arizona and raised in Phoenix. She was the second of seven children born to Thomas and Victoria (Serna) Baca. She graduated from high school in 1956 and in 1961 moved to the San Diego area where she raised her children until 1976 when they moved to Portland. Gloria was a homemaker who loved caring for her family. She was an excellent cook with family favorite dishes of green chili, enchiladas and homemade tortillas. She was considered the hub of the family with family gatherings at her home for the holidays, birthdays and other events. Her other joys were the dog races, video poker, Keno, yard sales, the Trail Blazers, traveling and singing.

Gloria is survived by her children; Frank Chavez, Vicky Chavez, Maria Wise, Danny Chavez and David Chavez, 17 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, siblings; Ike Baca, Betty Gutierrez, Donna Sedlow,  Mary Lou Gutierrez, Rupert Baca & Linda Lopez Predeceased by her daughter Sylvia Chavez in 1999.

“Granny”,”Grams” and “Mombo” will be missed by all who knew her.
