Gordon was born on January 15, 1932 in Porsgrunn, Norway to Per and Olive Walvik-Nielssen. His family came to Oregon when he was an infant. Gordon was a graduate of Grant High School in Portland and had attended Oregon State University, the University of Oregon, and Brigham Young University. He served in the United Sates Air Force during the Korean Conlict. Gordon had worked as a bank examiner for the State of Oregon for over 20 years, retiring in 1996. He liked to travel, enjoyed symphony music, and was a history buff. He was an excellent father and grandfather. Gordon passed away on July 22 at the age of 79. He is survived by his son, Eric G. Nielssen; his step-daughters, Pam and Julie McClain; his half sisters: Marcia McBeth and Carol Blodgett; and his grandchildren James and Lisa Nielssen.
