Grieg Lowell Anderson

Grieg L. Anderson was born on March 1943, in Portland, Oregon, to Lowell and Margaret Anderson.  He attended Riverdale Grade School and then graduated from Lincoln High School as its valedictorian.

He went on to Princeton University, receiving his Bachelor of Arts in Economics.  Grieg later earned his MBA from Portland State University while working at Portland General Electric.  Grieg spent his entire civilian career at PGE.  During his 30 years at PGE, he held a wide array of financial management positions, ending his career at PGE as assistant to the chairman.  He commented he’d “grown up with the company and the people who work [t]here.”

Immediately after college he spent two years in active duty with the U.S. Army.  He continued his career in the Army in the Army Reserves with the 104th Battalion in Vancouver, Washington.  After 21 memorable years in the Army Reserves, he retired as Colonel Anderson.

Grieg was very involved with his community and his church, donating many hours to a variety of committees, programs and boards.  He loved the opera; he served on the Board of the Portland Opera and relished his opportunities to take the stage as a supernumerary.  For many years, he worked with the American Diabetes Association – Oregon & SW Washington and especially enjoyed working the annual Tour de Cure; he also served a term on the Board of the national America Diabetes Association.  He was a charter member of Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church and remained deeply involved throughout his life.  He served as the Treasurer of the Oregon Lutheran Synod for 25 years.  He also served on the boards of the National Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and the Concordia University Foundation.

He was a life-long Yankees fan and loved going to MLB and Little League games with family and talking baseball strategy with his grandkids.

Grieg passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2018, from complications from cancer.  He was surrounded by his family and friends.  He is survived by his beloved wife, Clarice, daughters Tamzin and Kimberley, three cherished grandchildren, Madeline, Luca and Matteo, brother Eric, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held on August 4, 2018, at Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church at 2pm.
