Helen was born September 30, 1931 to Theodore and Leona Grotjohn in Northfield, Minnesota. Her family moved to Portland and she graduated from Roosevelt High School. She met William “Bill” Buschert (deceased 2011); they married and spent a long, happy life together. Helen has two children, James (deceased, 2007), Nancy, and one grandchild, Kiernan.
Helen is survived by siblings Theodore Grotjohn (Ohio), Leone Walton (Gresham), Kenneth Grotjohn (Portland), and Virginia Heater (Portland). Helen also had numerous nieces and nephews.
As a young adult, Helen worked for the telephone company, then was a full time homemaker, and later in life returned to work at the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality.
Helen’s hobbies were numerous including boating, fishing, and bowling. Bill and Helen also enjoyed travel, especially during their retirement years. Favorite destinations included the Oregon coast, Hawaii, and Alaska.
Helen was also a member of Gethsemane and Resurrection Lutheran Churches.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a graveside service at Rose City Cemetery, October 2 at 2 p.m. and a Celebration of Life Reception from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Francis Xavier’s Restaurant on 181 st in East Portland.
