Helen Henderson-West passed away in Portland on December 4, 2012. Born in Bismark, North Dakota to Roy Marvin Halliday and Mable Helen Spitzer on October 12, 1917 and soon relocated to Washington state where she was educated and taught elementary school. In 1946 Helen married James Russell Henderson and spent the rest of her life in Portland. She taught Kindergarten/First Grade at Ockley-Green for many years. After retirement she enjoyed many artistic mediums and was particularly proficient in stained glass. She enjoyed her charter membership in an ADK (professional teachers association) chapter and volunteering at her church. She was predeceased by her first husband and second, William Ernest West. She leaves many friends at her residences at River Cliff Condominiums and lastly Russellville. She is survived by Halliday nieces and nephews, Ernie West's daughters Kathi, Mary and Martha and their families, and Jim Henderson's daughter Martha Jane Wordsworth, husband Ian and children Jim and Erica and their families. Memorial services will be held at Fremont United Methodist Church, 2620 N.E. Fremont, at 4pm on Friday, December 7. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Helen's honor to charity of choice.
