Herman V. Jackson was born June 15, 1910, in Bennington (Switzerland County) Indiana, the son of Robert Newton Jackson and Clara (Glenn) Jackson.
Mr. Jacoson enlisted in the United States Navy, 8 October 1928, at the United States Naval Traning Station, Great Lake, Illinois, as an 18 yeal old Seaman. He retired active duty as Commander, 1 February 1957.
Though the year he served on many battleships, destroyers, destroyer tenders and repair ships. On 7 December 1941, he served on the U.S.S. Meduse AR-1 at Pearl Harbor. He was a Ship Superintendent and Dry Docking Officer 1941-1946 and he is a Pearl Harbor Survivor.

During Commander Jackson's career his advancement from an enlisted men and ultimately to the rank of Commander was remarkable in that his educational background included only an eighth grade education.
His loyalty and devotion to duty thoughout his careeer reflect the highest credit upn himself and the United States Navy.
