James Ray Sandvig

November 14, 1925 — January 29, 2014

James Ray Sandvig was born on November 14, 1925 to Talbert and Genevieve Sandvig in Chicago, Illinois. The family moved to Marshalltown, Iowa when he was 3 years old. He graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1943.  He served in WWII in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946 and saw duty in the South Pacific. He graduated from Lewis & Clark with a B.S. in 1952. He is in the Lewis and Clark football hall of fame for 1950. In 1965 he earned a MED from the University of Oregon. He married Jacqueline Aleen Pochert in 1953. She passed away in 2006. He taught for Portland Public Schools and for Navy dependant schools in Morocco, Italy, and Guam. Survivors include son Quentin, daughter Jarmila Hawes, granddaughters Marina Boyeas and JoAnn Boyeas, Brother David and great-granddaughter Adena.
