Janice Juanita DeYoung

July 28, 1929 — December 7, 2016

Janice Juanita De Young was born July 28, 1929 to Henry and Edna Miller.  She had one sibling, a sister, Lauretta Heer.  She grew up in NE Portland attending Highland Elementary and graduated from Girls Polytechnic in 1947.  She also attended Behnke-Walker business college.

On September 5, 1953 she married Raymond Jack De Young.  Together they had four children and are survived by Raymond Scott De Young, Randy Jack De Young, Diana Rae De Young, and Lynda Rae De Young.  She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.

Janice and her husband Raymond Jack ran De Young Sanitary Service in NE Portland for more than 40 years.  The business was then taken over by their son Randy Jack.  Janice continued to be involved in running the business with Randy until the end of 2014.

Janice’s greatest passion was for tap dancing.  She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, and jewelry making.  She loved to shop and enjoyed dinners with family and friends.

After her stroke and end stage renal disease in December 2014, she had to innovate ways to enjoy her life with her new limitations.  She lived at Mt. Tabor Courtyard assisted living where she began to paint and enjoyed crafts such as hat making.

She made the very courageous decision to stop dialysis and enter Hospice.  On her terms, she returned to her NE Portland home she loved and built with her husband for the final days of her life.  She was cared for by her two daughters and spent those days with close family and friends.   She passed away December 7th 2016.
