Jean Joan Dock
Jean was born in Portland, Oregon in 1917 to Isola and Giovanni Quilici. She had two brothers, Gino and Charles, and was married to Buzz Dock for 48 years till his passing in 2002. Jean passed away on February 10, 2014, she was 96 years old.
Jean attended St. Phillips parochial school and took graduate courses from Oregon State University. She started her first job when she was still in high school, working as a waitress for the Lido Restaurant. She later worked as a lab tech for Mayflower Dairy, working for them for 22 years before getting tired of wearing ‘white clothes and white shoes’ all the time. She left the dairy and went to work for a dress shop in East Moreland for 12 years, working her way up to become a buyer.
Jean was an independent lady, buying her own first home at the age of 27, even though the bank was reluctant to commit to a loan to a woman of ‘her age’ who was unmarried. Jean was not to be denied; she bought her home, and quickly opened it up to her younger brother Charles and his wife, who was expecting their first child.
Jean met her husband, Albert ‘Buzz’ Dock, a friend of her brothers, during a Sunday lunch. Jean was impressed with his good manners, her mother loved his character, and so she agreed to go on a date with him. The two were married in 1954.
Jean and Buzz led a travelers’ life, enjoying the beauty of the Pacific Northwest; together, they visited every National Park in the Northwest, did a lot of road trips all around the western half of the United States, and did a lot of fishing on Vancouver Island.
Jean leaves behind her niece, Diana Jenness, nephews Donald Quilici and Jerry Edwards, her grand nephews Randy and Brian Jenness, her grand niece Stacey Barrett, and five great-great nieces who simply knew her as ‘Aunt Gina.’
Jean’s funeral will be held at Rose City Funeral Home on February 18 at 1:00pm; Private entombment at Rose City Cemetery.
