John Michael Fabian passed away Dec. 6, 2017 due to end stage heart failure after a lengthy stay in the hospital.

John was born Jan. 4, 1944 in Spangler, Pa., son of Edward and Anna (Matava) Fabian, the middle of three boys.  He is survived by his younger brother, Larry.  He was preceded in death by his older brother, Ed.

John left home at 17 to join the Navy, then settled in the Portland area after his service.  He married Yvonne Katherine Pence in 1965.  He graduated from Portland State University and spent his career as a chief claims adjuster in the insurance industry.  John was an avid fisherman who enjoyed steelhead and salmon fishing. The Captain, as he was referred to by many, was the life of the party, friendly and always welcoming. He enjoyed a good debate by talking politics or discussing current events. John always put family first and was very supportive of his children, by participating in talent shows, coaching soccer, little league teams, and chaperoning events. He led by example when teaching his children a strong work ethic, the importance of integrity, and family.  John, or “Gug” as he affectionately became known as by his first granddaughter Rebecca, was a proud and loving grandpa.

After his wife Yvonne passed away in 2007 due to cancer, John was able to find another love, Connie Meuller. Connie’s children refer to us as her “other family.”  We will all miss him immensely and find some solace in the fact that we will see him again.

He is survived by daughter, Kathy Raymond; favorite son-in-law, Kevin; two beautiful and gifted granddaughters, Rebecca and Madeline; son, John Fabian; favorite daughter-in-law, Christina; and an energetic and sweet grandson, Dominic.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., Thursday Dec. 14, 2017, at the Gresham Eagles located at 117 N.E. Roberts Ave., Gresham, OR 97030.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to: R&R New Options Equine, P.O. Box 2126, Gresham, OR. 97030.
