John Thomas Manlove, passionately known as "Bay", was born on January 6, 1943 in Hamburg, Arkansas. He was called home to be with the Lord on November 1,, 2008 in Portland, Oregon.
He attended elementary school in Vanport, and also attended Roosevelt High School in Portland, Oregon. At an early age John attended Holy Springs Baptist Church in Hamburg, Arkansas.
Disabilities never kept him down; his life was greatly influenced by his Aunt Charity Woody, who along with his mother worked as a team raising him. Disabilities kept him from the work force. His desire was to have a music career and travel around the world. While traveling he met several well known musicians. He wanted very much to travel internationally, but was unable to do so.
John loved the outdoors, fresh air, walking, or taking the city bus around Portland. He had a great love for his family and holidays were his favorite time. Every Christmas he would send out Christmas cards to family members. John was a very caring and loving person. He met no strangers.
We all loved John and we will miss him. But we know that God loved him best.
John was preceded in death by his father, Charley Manlove; his step-father Aaron Smith; his two brothers: Charles and James Manlove; two nephews: Derek and Ronald Manlove, and by his aunt Charity Woody. John leaves to mourn his loving memory: his mother Sarah Smith; two sisters: Ethel Ross and Karen Smith; all of Portland, Oregon; his aunt Ollie Mae Griffin of Crossett, Arkansas; three God-sisters, one God-brother, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
