John Charles Perkins was born January 25, 1947 in Portland, Oregon to John Perkins and Irma Lee Washington. John was known to his family and friends as Johnny, Uncle Johnny and John. He attended and graduated from David Douglas High School; where he played football and baseball. John joined the Marine Corp when he left home as a young man. After John’s stay in the military, he obtained an apprenticeship as a plumber and became a skilled journeyman. While in the military, John married Faye Dawson and they had a child Stacey Alise.
Though he was not a church man, John accepted Christ as his personal Savior and loved to worship Him through the televised T.D. Jakes Ministry every Sunday at 3:00 pm. He devoted his last twenty three years to his partner, best friend and better half the love of his life Sherry Lynn Carpenter. They loved and enjoyed their life together!
He was a Patriarch of his family. John had a jovial personality, he was fair and straight forward in his mannerism and he did not pull punches (honest and not hiding anything). John was considerate of others and had a compassionate heart. He was a good man. John was so well loved and appreciated by all who knew him. Missing him is beyond words. He loved his grandfather, Lucious Washington, for whom he loved to quote. One of his favorite sayings was “I’m still above ground by being careful." John’s life was based on being just that.
John was preceded in passing by his parents and three brothers. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving better half, Sherry Lynn Carpenter (Portland, OR,); his daughter, Stacey Alise Perkins-Campbell (Kinston, NC); his older sister, Sharon Louise Perkins-Clark (Vancouver, WA); his younger sister, Jacqulyn Ellois Cuie-Hall (Dallas, TX); and his younger brother, Ronald Lee Cuie, Sr. (Philadelphia, PA); Four Grandchildren, Two Great-Grandchildren, Twelve Nieces and Nephews, a host of Great and Great-Great Nieces and Nephews; and a host of friends and acquaintances who knew and loved him.
We say so long to our beloved One! Take your Rest! We will all treasure your memory! We know you made it home!
