On Dec. 24, 1955, while stationed at Fort Lewis, John made a trip to Portland with a buddy who had a girl friend there. This girl friend had a friend, Ollie Ailene Seeley, and somehow the two guys ended up at her house and then the foursome all went out together to a favorite dance hall, the Division Street Corral. John and Ollie were then married at Grace Presbyterian Church, Sept. 9, 1956.

John was stationed at Fort Lewis until Aug. of 1957 when he was shipped out to Korea again. In 1958 he was returned to Fort Lewis. He and his family were stationed at Fort Lewis until Jan. 1965 and then orders came for Germany. (They had just had a house built 4 months earlier. Army, wouldn't you know it!) John and his family pack up and off they went traveling across country, and to Tennessee to visit his family in some of the worst weather the south had seen in years. John left the Army June 1, 1968 and he and his family returned to Portland, Oregon.

John landed a job with United Finance Company at Gateway, and as usual, started at the bottom and in a short time was the Manager. While at U.F., he received many awards. In his off time he was a member of the Gateway Key Stone Cops which preformed in parades such as the Starlight, Miss Oregon Pageant at Seaside, and the Gateway Fun-O-Rama. John was also involved in Boy Scouting. He was Scout Master of: Troop 108. He also received his Wood Badge. John was also a founding member of the Columbia County CB Club and Rose City Music Hall. John Retired from United Finance in January 1991.

Since his retirement, John and Ollie opened the Mount Tabor Exchange, which was a sport and non-sport collectible cards, comics, and coin shop. After leaving the business world behind, he enjoyed hour upon hour on the computer.

John leaves behind his wife; his sons Steven A.C. Tabor and Carl L. Tabor; daughter Vicynthia A. Tabor; eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
