Jonathan Duke Flake, Sr.
June 28, 1949 — January 31, 2010
JONATHAN DUKE FLAKE, SR., came into this world on June 28th, 1949 in Riverside, California. The 2nd child born of the late Kay Zell Flake and Leona LaVonne Hamilton.
Jonathan remained in Los Angeles until 1959 at which time the Flake family was relocated to San Fernando, California. Jonathan remained there until 1967. Jonathan's childhood was filled with mischief and childhood fun coming from a rather large extended family, summers were often spent on their grandparents farm in Fresno California.
Jonathan's formal education began at Holmes Street School in 1954, after relocating to San Fernando he entered Vaughn Street Elementary, later attending San Fernando Jr. High and in 1967 graduating from Los Angeles High School. After graduation Jonathan enlisted in the United States Navy reaching the rank of Private First Class. After completing his Naval Duty, Jonathan returned to school and received his degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Jonathan began his Christian training very early in life for the entire Flake Family where members of Calvary Baptist Church under the Ministry teachings of the late Rev. Hillary T. Broadus, located in Pacoima, California. After years of faithful service to the church, in 1992 Rev. Robert Charles Hill Minister of Paradise Baptist ordained Jonathan a Deacon of the Church.
In 1971 Jonathan relocated to Oregon, where he met and married Marion Elise Pritchard, he later married Marva Reed, and finally Bobbi Jean Thornton who recently preceded him in death. Jonathan spent over 25 years in the Technical Employment Field as a Recruitment Specialist, working for such companies as Peak Technical and Job Shoppers. He then pursued his passion of helping others through foster care for over 13 years.
Jonathan being of gentle nature reached and touched a lot of lives in his time here on earth. He has come to the end of his time here on this earth and is making his final journey home. He truly will be missed.............
Left to to mourn his passing, a sister, Kay Lavonne Burrell, Children: Edward Flake, Eric Flake, Ramoon Reed, Charmel Dines (husband Oliver Dines), Bernadet Hudson, (husband Deary Hudson ), Valencia Lindsey (husband William Lindsey), Jonathan Duke Flake, II, Angelique Roseman, (husband Demi Roseman), Anthony (Tony) Flake, Onjalai Flake and Brandon Flake. also left are 41 granchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 1 Uncle Hubert Hamilton, 1 Aunt, Lillie Mae Walls, his nephew Larrae Newson and a host of other relatives and many many friends.
Preceding him in death where his Wife Bobbi, brother Charles, and Parents Leona and Kayzell Flake.
