Keith Arthur Kugel was a native Oregonian born in Portland to Edmund and Gladys Kugel in 1929 and schooled at Benson High. While playing football he met the love of his life, Virginia Gusse. They celebrated their 66 th wedding anniversary.
Keith started his career installing furnaces with his father at Montag Inc but quickly changed professions. Despite lacking a college education, he soon rose to become the head Purchasing Manager at American Steel and Gundersons Inc/Greenbrier. He retired in 1997 with a stylish “Superman” themed party like no other. He was a self-made man who earned high respect through his hard work and honesty.
AND he was a grand storyteller. His oft-repeated scenarios were “slightly” embellished to reflect his own uniqueness. He was beloved all the more for it!
He and Virginia traveled to many exotic places, their favorites being the Amazon River and Africa.
Whitaker School District elected Keith to its School Board serving for many years. But coaching and managing his son’s Little League teams launched his love for all sports. He could always be found rooting for his OSU Beavers.
Keith leaves behind his wife, Virginia; daughter, Sandy Peterson-Fry, (Jim); son, Glenn Kugel (Chris); Four grandchildren/spouses and four great grandchildren. A Celebration of his Life will occur at Rose City Funeral Home in Portland on Monday, July 27 th at 3:00 p.m. All who knew him are invited.
