Laura (Lolly) Roberts – Stonecipher – Lindley
Lolly was born a little more than 87 years ago on December 22, 1927 to Wilmot and Laura Roberts in Oregon City, OR and lived her entire life in Portland. She attended Bridger elementary school and Girls Poly and Franklin high schools. While growing up Lolly enjoyed riding horses and grooming her pony.
Lolly met Chuck Stonecipher while working at Singer Sewing Machine Company where among other responsibilities she taught blind people to sew. Lolly and Chuck married in 1949. Lolly and Chuck had two sons; Steve (Cindy) Stonecipher and Scott (Theresa) Stonecipher. Lolly was a home maker and baby sitter for other neighborhood children and a PTA member while her sons attended elementary school. She held clerical positions at manufacturing companies while her sons attended high school. Lolly and Chuck built their dream home on Mt. Tabor with a great view of Mt. Hood and Mt. Saint Helens. Chuck passed away in 1978.
Lolly married Bill Lindley in 1981. Bill had three sons and a daughter; Doug Lindley, Karin (Ron) Bu llion, Mark (Eileen) Lindley and Craig Lindley (des.). Lolly retired soon after she married Bill. She traveled with him on several business trips, became a volunteer at School House Supply, played bridge with her close friends of many years and spent endless hours cultivating beautiful flowers in her garden. Bill passed away in 2002.
Lolly has several grandchildren and great grandchildren. They became a primary focus of her deep and unconditional love for family. She enjoyed spending time with them and sewing, knitting and crocheting for them.
Lolly enjoyed traveling. She made several trips to Alaska and Hawaii and one very memorable trip to Germany. However, the Oregon coast was perhaps her favorite place to visit, and she made many trips to the coast throughout her lifetime.
Lolly’s church affiliation was also a very important aspect of her life. She was a long time member of Sixth Church of Christ Scientists in downtown Portland and most recently a member of Eighth Church of Christ Scientists. She was very active on the church board of directors.
Friends and family all testify to the fact that Lolly was one of the most loving and caring person they had the privilege of knowing. Lolly passed away August 13, 2015. She will be greatly missed by everyone whose life she touched.
