LaVerne was born on April 13, 1939 in Portland, Oregon. Her father drowned when she was a little girl, and her mother was busy working, which required her grandmother, Mrs. Green to raise her. She was an only child. LaVerne graduated from Washington High School in Portland and was living with her mother at that time. She met and married Delbert McSwain and they had one child named David. LaVerne moved on and married Will Jones, after their divorce she stayed single for several years. LaVerne met her soul mate Walter Buckley and they were married for over 20 years.
LaVerne worked for many years as a Nurses Aid and enjoyed her work but her health was not good and she had to leave a job she truly enjoyed
LaVerne loved many things of beauty. Growing roses was her passion. During the Portland Rose Festival she would enter her roses and received many blue ribbons.
LaVerne leaves behind her son David, five grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren, godson, Timothy Reed and many family members and so many good friends.
Thank you God for bringing this wonderful lady into our lives.
